The Effect of Environmental Information Disclosure on Green Total Factor Productivity: Evidence from Quasi-Natural Experiments on Cities in China

The relationship between environmental regulation and green economic growth has become a focal issue in China. This study utilizes the information disclosure (EID) policy as quasi-natural experiment Chinese context. Using sample of 280 cities from 2003–2019 measuring urban total factor productivity (GTFP), propensity score matching difference-in-difference methods are applied to assess impact mechanism EID on GTFP results show that, first, showed decreasing trend 2003 2008 general increasing 2009 2019. had significantly positive GTFP, this finding remained robust after series tests. Second, effect was more pronounced large medium-sized than small eastern central regions. analysis shows that can be achieved through technological innovation industrial agglomeration.
